The Society was founded as The Heraldry Society (Australian Branch) in 1961, becoming incorported in Victoria as Heraldry Australia Inc in 1992. On 9 August 2008 the Society changed its name to The Australian Heraldry Society Inc.

Purposes of the association:

The advancement of education in the science, art, history, practice and development of heraldry and allied subjects and the encouragement of their study and practice in Australia.

We pursue our objectives by:

• producing a members' circular bi-monthly
• producing a more scholarly journal, Heraldry News, three times a year
• maintaining this web site
• holding meetings of members
• promoting heraldry by correspondence, submitting evidence to Parliamentary enquiries, and so on.
